What’s your cancellation / refund policy?
48 hour notice is required for any cancellations. Any cancellations made with less than 48
hours notice will result in forfeiture of deposit. When our therapists are booked for an event,
they close their books for accepting any clients at their studios/offices, so we request at least 48

What is a chair massage?
Chair massage is a massage modality named after the specially designed massage chair the
the client sits in. The chair is designed to put the client in a fetal position, which opens up the
muscles on the neck and back and allows the therapist easier access to those muscles. During
the course of a chair massage, a licensed therapist will use their hands, knuckles, forearms and
elbows to work tight muscles and ease tension.
How much space is needed?
When it is unfolded, a massage chair itself takes up about 3’x3’ of space. Add room for a
therapist to move around the chair in order to work and a 6’x6’ work space is all that is needed
per chair. Most of the chair massage performed by Tennessee Chair Massage has been in
spaces such as storage closets or an unoccupied office. At conventions, two therapists and
chairs can be set up comfortably in a 10’x10’ (standard convention size) booth. Three can fit if
they like each other and have showered that day.
Do I remove my clothing?
The client remains fully clothed for the duration of their massage. Items such as glasses, bulky
jewelry or jackets may be removed.
Do they use oils during the massage?
No oil or lotions are used during chair massage.
Are the chairs clean?
After each and every massage, the therapist will clean and sanitize the chair and their hands to
ensure the health and safety of each client.
What if I need the pressure adjusted?
You may ask your therapist at any point to increase or decrease the pressure being used. All
therapists have been thoroughly trained in various massage techniques and have worked on
people of all ages and body types. The goal of each therapist is to make sure every client
leaves their chair happy and with a little less stress than when they sat down.
What can I expect during a chair massage?
Before you sit down, your therapist will ask you if there are any areas you would like focused on.
The length of the massage will determine what areas will be worked. For example, if you only
have 5 minutes in which to get a massage and want your neck/upper shoulders focused on, the
therapist may spend the entire time on just that area. If you have 30 minutes and want the
same area focused on, the therapist may spend 10 to 20 minutes on that area, but will also work
the rest of the back, arms, glutes and scalp, in an effort to balance out the entire client and find
hidden areas of tension they may not have been aware of. During the massage, your therapist
may use their hands, knuckles, forearms and elbows to help meet your goals. The pressure
used is entirely up to you. Massage should never be uncomfortable. “No pain, no gain” does
not apply when you’re in the chair.
Won’t I be tired after getting a massage?
When you first get out of the chair, you may feel a little groggy, but that feeling will pass in about
10 to 15 minutes and you’ll actually be more energized than when you first sat in the chair.
Because chair massage is shorter in length than a table massage, the groggy feeling won’t
follow you around for the rest of the day.
Are gratuities or tips expected?
Gratuities are never expected, but always appreciated. The gratuities added are never kept by
Tennessee Chair Massage, but rather split evenly among the therapist who worked your event.
I’m pregnant. Can I still get receive chair massage?
Absolutely! Massage can be very beneficial to women in all stages of their pregnancy. Some of
our therapists have more extensive training with prenatal clients, so just let us know if your
family is growing and we’ll pair you with one of these therapists.
Are there contraindications for chair massage?
Unfortunately, yes. Some factors that may rule you out for chair massage include, but are not
limited to: uncontrolled HPB or diabetes, any injuries or new medications started within the
proceeding 72 hours, and contagious illnesses or skin conditions. Speak to you your therapist
about any medical concerns. Please know that we do not enjoy turning anyone away from a
chair massage, but if it is in the best interest of the client, we will do so. Each therapist has the
knowledge and training to make a decision if chair massage could be harmful to a client and
their decision will be backed by Tennessee Chair Massage.
How many massage therapists will I need for my event?
The number of therapists needed depends on many factors including number of people
receiving massage, length of each massage, space available for therapists/chairs and length of
event. To get a number for your specific circumstance, please contact us and we will help you
determine the amount of therapists/massages you will need.
A good rule of thumb is 4 – 10 minute sessions per therapist per hour.
